He enlisted January 10, 1916 in Woodstock. He stated that he was born November 9, 1893 in Woodstock. He lived in Blandford Township and worked as a labourer at the time of his enlistment. He was a member of the Oxford Rifles for almost 3 years. On December 9, 1917 Private Arthur Allan Porter was killed in action. He is buried in Sucrerie Cemetery, Ablain-St. Nazaire, France. Ablain-St Nazaire is a village approximately 13 kilometres north of Arras.
